DETAILS OF FINE ART
PRINTS
Our over-riding aim is to offer
the best quality we can achieve. From
Steve's meticulous approach in producing
the image, through print reproduction, and
onto the presentation, our aim is to
provide our customers with an experience
that will last a lifetime.
Steve works with large format
cameras and film because he feels that
only this combination can reproduce the
light, tone, colour and texture in a way
that corresponds with his vision. The
images are individually hand-printed because
this guarantees faithful reproduction of
Steve's originals, and the longevity of
the finished print. Finally, all our
matting and framing is hand-made for
each print individually because this gives
the highest quality and robustness.
 Open Edition Prints
Open editions have no limit as to the number
of prints issued. With the exceptions noted
below, prints available in open editions are
available in all sizes. Open edition prints
are available as a print only, or matted. Open edition prints
are supplied with photographer's notes and a confirmation card.
Please note: A print available in
an open edition may also be available in a
limited edition. Where this is the case, it is
not available as an open edition print in those
sizes where it is offered in a limited edition
(usually 20x16 and 24x20).
Limited Edition Prints.
Prints offered in limited editions have their
production run restricted to a maximum
number. Unless specifically noted otherwise,
our limited editions are restricted to 50
prints in each edition. All limited edition
prints are available either matted or framed, and are available in
two sizes; 20x16 and 24x20 (or the panoramic
equivalents where applicable). Limited
edition prints are supplied with
photographer's notes, a
confirmation card, and a certificate.
Please note: Where prints are
offered in limited editions, the same print is
not available in those sizes in the open
edition (usually 20x16 and 24x20).
Prices of Limited Limited Edition
Prints.
The prices of limited edition prints goes up
as more prints are sold from that
edition. This system means that customers
buying a prints early in the edition get the
best possible deal, and that the price rises
as the edition nears sell-out. The prices
quoted on the website reflect the current
prices.
Production of
Prints.
Each print is individually printed for a
customer when the order is received. All our
display prints, regardless of size, are
traditionally hand-printed from the original
film transparency using the Ilfochrome
(Cibachrome) system. This is a traditional
chemical process, producing the ultimate in
archival quality, with richest colour,
greatest tonal range and sharpest detail. It
is the method that most closely reflects the
original transparency. Prints will last 100+
years if exposure to excessive UV light is
avoided, and each print is meticulously
colour and tone matched by Steve to the
original transparency. Please note that
Steve does not employ any digital methodology
at any stage in the production of display
prints.
Matting.
All matting is done using the latest archival
standard, acid free boards. All the boards
are individually cut to suit each print. We
do not use pre-cut boards.
Frames.
Prints supplied in frames are first matted,
then framed. Our standard frames are
constructed by hand from beautiful solid ash
wood. Each frame is hand-built specifically
for each print, and comes supplied with a
hanging cord fixed using solid brass
fittings. We do not use pre-formed, or
pre-assembled frames.
Photographer's
Notes.
All our prints come complete with a
commentary by Steve highlighting aspects of
the image. These notes come complete with a
confirmation card signed by Steve,
guaranteeing that the print originates with
Steve Lewis ARPS, and is not a inferior copy.
Certificates.
Our limited edition prints also come complete
with a numbered and signed certificate
confirming the print's number in the edition,
as well as the size of the edition.
